This month is my one-year ipsy anniversary! My makeup skills have changed so much since then, and I have drawers and makeup bags full of samples now. Thank you, ipsy, for consistently sending me great products. Start subscribing to ipsy by clicking here! So let’s jump right in!
First of all, I LOVE THIS BAG. It’s completely black with soft spikes. If you could look into my soul, this bag would be there. It’s perfect.
LUXIE Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush 207
I’ve received a few LUXIE brushes before from ipsy, and I’ve always liked them! They work well, and they don’t stain easily. I can always get the product off of the brushes when I clean them. They’re also pretty cute. (I also like getting brushes because it’s a full-size item)
You can get this brush from the LUXIE website for $12.00. That’s definitely more than I would pay for a brush, but I’m cheap and I’m happy to get this in my glam bag!
Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey
This product has a color that looks more like a highlighter and a color that looks more like a blush. They both have some sparkle to them, so I automatically knew I couldn’t use the blush color. I prefer a darker pink in a matte shade for blush. But swirling your brush around this can give you a nice little highlight! I definitely don’t need more highlighters, because I swear I get a highlighter sample every month, but it seems to be good quality!
(Say “highlighter” one more time, Amanda.)
The Pixi Beauty website has this blush duo for $18. That seems a bit steep, but it seems people really love this brand.
Skinfood Egg White Perfect Pore Cleansing Foam
I think this is a Korean skin product, which is a big thing right now, so I was excited to try this. I also really like foam cleansers, so I expected to really like this. The first time I tried this, I was washing my face at the sink, and it felt great! The second time I tried it, I was washing my face in the shower, and it weirdly made my skin feel dry… while I was washing it. I’m not sure what happened, but I’ll probably keep using it only over the sink.
Ulta carries this product for $13, which isn’t too bad, because that’s over 6 oz of product.
Brow Boss Pencil in the shade Light Brown
It’s not incredibly pigmented on the first swipe, so it seems like you have to push down pretty hard to get the desired color. I love Colourpop, but ipsy sent me light brown, and if you’ve ever seen a picture of me, you know I have incredibly dark eyebrows. They probably just think I have light eyebrows, because my hair is light, so that’s understandable.
Colourpop has this brow pencil (because I think they’re the only place that it’s sold, but I heard that they may be going to Sephora) for $5.00. So that’s definitely not bad when you see similar products by other brands.
Adesse New York Organic Infused Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in the shade Deception
I FINALLY GOT A GRAY NAIL POLISH. I’ve wanted one for so long, so I was stoked. It’s not quite as gray as I would like (I said that to my boyfriend and he was incessantly making fun of me: ‘omg, don’t you have a blacker black?’), but it’s still pretty good! The polish itself is good quality, and when I looked this shade up on the website, it’s from the Fall/Winter 2016 collection called “Bewitched Collection”. I already love the collection title so much, that I’m going to go take a peek at the other colors after I finish this. I will say that the lid of this polish seems undone. The plastic wasn’t cut off where it was supposed to be, so it’s a little jagged.
P.S. It’s also Cruelty, Paraben, Sulfate, Petrochemical, GMO, and Triclosan Free, and it’s Vegan.
The Adesse New York website has this nail polish for a whopping $18. I would never pay that much for nail polish, so THANK YOU, IPSY.
GUYS. I got three full-sized products in just ONE GLAM BAG. AND this is probably my favorite glam bag. I’d call this a big win! The total price of this bag was about $45. That’s pretty good for paying $10 and getting 3 products that I will use regularly.
Play! by Sephora
Sephora is either great or rough. Let’s hope for a good box this month! Also, the drawstring (or… drawribbon?) bag itself isn’t great. It’s bright pink and says “a Change of Face”. I don’t like pink and this seems like they ran out of ideas.
DevaCurl Melt Into Moisture Matcha Green Tea Butter Conditioning Mask
I always say that I’m nervous trying hair products, because I’m picky about what I put on my hair, but I decided to try this one out, because it is free of sulfates, parabens, and silicones, AND it isn’t tested on animals! I was told a few years ago by a hair stylist (I think after the time I got my hair dyed platinum) that I should use a hair mask. I think I got a sample of one once, but I’m not sure I ever used it… That explains why my hair was so damaged back then. Anyway, this is the first hair mask I’ve used, and I only used it on the bottom half of my hair, and not my scalp. But it made my hair really soft! …which I think is the point, right?
DevaCurl’s website has this product for $36.00. If you like hair masks, you would probably like this one! Plus, the full size is 8 oz, so it would probably last a while.
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel
I was so excited to get this product! I wish the gel was another shade darker, but it’s not a pencil or anything, so it doesn’t look crazy on my darker brows. It really just helps control the direction my hair goes, WHICH I DESPERATELY NEED. I have incredibly wire-y brows, as in 70-year-old man wire-y brows. But I really liked this! I would definitely recommend this to my fellow crazy eyebrow friends. It also says it’s water-resistant, and although I haven’t tested it, that would be great!
Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in the shade Happy
So, Sephora describes the shade “happy” as a “warm fuschia”… WHY DOES SEPHORA KEEP SENDING ME THESE FUSCHIA SHADES? This lipstick isn’t just an annoying color… IT ALSO HAS SPARKLE IN IT. And not like “Ciate Glitter Flip” sparkle, but “weird lip gloss I wore in 5th grade” sparkle. I really like the sleek packaging, but I just don’t think I will ever want to wear this lipstick.
The full size isn’t a whole lot bigger than the sample I received, but you can get it from Sephora for $28.00. I’m sure another shade would be great for the price, but I wouldn’t suggest this one.
Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb
YESSSS. I received the aqua bomb from ipsy (I think) recently, and I use it all the time, AND it was small enough to travel with. Perfect. From first glance, the packaging is the exact same, but the formula is obviously different, because the aqua bomb is blue and this one is white. Long-term, I don’t know the big differences, but short-term, this one leaves my skin just as soft as the aqua bomb.
Sephora has two different sizes available. A smaller size for $22 and a bigger size for $38. I would say you should get a sample first, instead of going out an buying a full-size straight up.
Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner
YES. YES. I have wanted to try this eyeliner so much, but it’s pretty expensive, so I’ve never picked it up. I’ve always heard great things, but I was like “okay. it’s a liquid eyeliner pen… can it be that great?” Yes, yes it can. I have such a hard time making a wing, and this pen made it so easy! I also already prefer liquid liner pens anyway, so I may bit a bit biased.
Sephora and Ulta both have this product for $22.00, but I think Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack have it for a little bit cheaper.
P.S. Always check Nordstrom Rack first for makeup, because they have MAC, Urban Decay, GlamGlow, Stila, etc. for a cheaper price.
Clean Reserve Perfume in the scents Sel Santal & Citron Fig
I was surprised to have gotten two perfume samples! Starting with the Sel Santal scent, it has notes of mandarin, violet, amber, and styrax, and it smells great! It’s a soft, smooth, gentle scent, and it’s something I would wear every day. And that’s saying a lot, because I’m incredibly picky about perfumes.
The Citron Fig isn’t as great. It has notes of fig, cardamom, copaiba oil, and sandalwood, and looking at the notes, I would have expected to prefer this one over the previous perfume. This one is musky and even kind of has a weird body odor smell. I definitely don’t like it.
Sephora has these scents for $95.00 each. Strangely, the Clean website doesn’t even seem to have this products, so that’s weird.
This box wasn’t too bad! This month’s products came to about $48. Not too far off from this month’s ipsy! I definitely didn’t like the lipstick or one of the perfumes, but everything else, I can use pretty regularly.
